What is Driver CPC?

All professional lorry, bus and coach working drivers must hold a valid Driver CPC Card or Driver Qualification Card (DQC).

Existing Professional Drivers and those who already have a Driver Qualification Card must complete 35 hours of Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) periodic training every 5 years or the certificate will lapse.

Driver CPC Periodic Training must continue until such time that this person no longer wishes to drive category C or D vehicles professionally.

If you already have a PCV licence and passed your test before Sep 2008, or if you have an LGV/HGV licence and you passed your test before Sep 2009, or if you have a C1 category and passed before 1997, then Periodic Driver CPC Training is the right training for you.

There are two types of Driver CPC Training:

Driver CPC Initial Training is for new professional drivers who want to drive a lorry, bus or coach and do not already have a Driver CPC Card.

Driver CPC Periodic Training is for existing professional drivers who already have a Driver CPC Card and drive a lorry, bus or coach.

CPC and Driver offers Driver CPC Periodic Training only
Specifically, for drivers who need to participate in all, or part, of the 35 hours of training, in order to comply with the Vehicle Drivers (CPC) regulation 2007.

Drivers can complete all 35 hours over a 5-day period or spread them out over several days. You can also book a 7-hour course each year. We have scheduled online courses, in our Farnborough premises and can also provide in-house courses at your premises. It is entirely up to you.

You have the flexibility as to how you or your drivers take the 35 hours of Driver CPC Periodic Training, provided this training occurs in blocks of at least seven hours at one time. The material we use is fresh, upbeat and contains interactive team exercises, films and case studies. We offer a choice of Approved Driver CPC Courses, set on different days of the week. These include:

  • LGV Driver Essentials

  • Load Safety and Security

  • Accident procedures, Poor weather and Technology

  • Vehicle Checks and Preventing Bridge Strikes

  • Health & Safety and Driver Wellbeing

Current courses are constantly updated and new ones added in order to meet the demands and needs of our clients. Please let us know of your particular preferences, so we can tailor the training to your specific firm or industry.

Driver CPC trainees, receive a certificate for each 7-hour course they attend and their training hours are uploaded onto the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) database. Once you have completed 35 hours of training, you will earn your qualification, valid for 5 years, and the DVSA will automatically despatch a Drivers Qualification Card to your home address.

You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving professionally without Driver CPC

HOW DOES IT WORK ONLINE?

Frequently Asked Questions
For Online Training via Zoom

Online meeting

How is the course delivered?

You will log-in to a 7-hour online meeting using zoom.us. Breaks will be taken throughout the day. Each module runs from 9am - 5pm each day. The course format is the same as you would see in a classroom setting and involves PowerPoint presentation. The sessions are interactive with the opportunity for you to put your questions or comments to the trainer. There is also the occasional multiple-choice quiz but nothing to pass or fail, it just helps to make the day more interesting.

Do I need to download anything first?

Our system will automatically send a joining link to your email address as soon as you complete the online boking form. If you wish, you may visit zoom.us and create an account in advance. You only need the free version; we already have the paid license to run longer meetings. If you are using a mobile device, you will need to download the app.

Can I use a phone?

You will have a better experience and functionality on a laptop or desktop, however the majority of the day can be easily followed on a mobile device. You are welcome to have multiple devices logged onto the session if you like.

Do I need a camera?

You do need a camera to complete an ID check. This can be completed on a phone if necessary. You will need a camera for the rest of the day, this a DVSA requirement.

What if I lose connection?

Not to worry as this happens often. It is not a major problem so long as you re-join the session without a lengthy delay.

How do I get my Drivers Qualification Card?

This will be automatically sent to you once you have completed the required training. It usually takes around a week to arrive. You will be issued with certificates at the end of each module and you can legally drive with these certificates as proof of attendance whilst you wait for your card.
